Parts of a Tower Crane
Tower cranes allow the construction industry to build some amazing structures. These cranes have been utilized to reach ever-increasing heights. Tower cranes provide the means to lift and transport building parts, supplies and tools around a construction location. There are various parts that assemble a tower crane when they are put together. Putting a tower crane together uses different pieces of construction machines.

Base
The base of a tower crane is normally made from a steel unit. The units' base attaches to a custom pad made of concrete. This type of set-up provides the structure with stability. Overall, the construction needs to be engineered and built well in order to operate at optimum safety.

Mast
The tower cranes mast provides height to the equipment. The mast is made of attached steel sections. The amount of parts determines the height of the crane. Normally, a tower crane has a design that enables the mast to grow during construction by adding further parts as the building process continues. This way the height of the crane could be specified, ensuring it has enough height to efficiently and safely carry out the required work.

Slewing Unit/Top Climber
A slewing unit is located at the top of the mast. This unit houses the machinery and the motor which enables the crane to rotate. A top climber is the piece of equipment which enables the mast to grow. The top climber is located just underneath the slewing unit. Hydraulic rams in the top climber allow the slewing unit to be disconnected from the mast by raising it higher.

Boom
"Boom" is a term that particularly refers to the working arm of a tower crane. The boom is made of steel sections attached together, which extend out from the top of the slewing unit, parallel to the ground. There is a trolley connected to the underside which could run the length of the boom. This particular trolley holds the hoisting mechanism.
