Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescoping booms lifts are designed to mount a work bucket on an extendable, straight arm which is located on a rotating turntable. Typically, telescoping boom lifts are utilized for tasks that require reaching at maximum height, exceeding other kinds of lifts. Like for example, workers are able to carry out exterior repairs or renovations on medium sized buildings but using these lifts rather than having the additional work of setting up a pulley system or an outside elevator.
The bucket of the boom lift usually only holds a single employee. These buckets are better suitable to specific tasks like for example electrical repair, as opposed to window washing or general maintenance. These lifts are offered with both indoor and outdoor tires and are available in gas or electric configurations.
Scissor Lifts
Beneath the scissor lifts work platform are the cross braces in which the equipment gets its name. Once the braces move together it pushes the platform straight up. Since these types of units must be positioned directly below the work location, compared to boom lifts, these units are way more limited in their use.
The scissor lift typically has a larger platform which enables the operator to control the lift to access a larger work area once the lift platform is raised off the ground. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of a problem with these models, as they should sit on flat ground in order to be utilized. Scissor lifts are great for being utilized for cladding or window installation, since they provide the workers with the desired mobility; they are also a great alternative for exterior repairs or window cleaning applications.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
The boom truck or cherry picker refers to the utility vehicle often used to raise workers for various jobs performed at heights. Usually, these types of trucks have a cab. It is here where the driver sits and controls the machinery. There is a bucket for where the worker could stand as well as a winch for lifting and an actuator arm for lifting the boom.
Boom trucks take employees to heights that would usually be inaccessible. The function of cranes is to raise heavy materials or equipment from one place to another. There are a variety of different crane types that can perform a variety of purposes. Both of these different types of equipment excel at different tasks and are suitable for specific applications and finishing particular jobs.
